Chairman of LMGI Jean Rakich noted, “’International’ is not a big enough word for what we do. It’s easy to imagine a scene taking place anywhere on the globe, or somewhere in outer space, or in a world that exists in a post-apocalyptic universe. It’s another thing to go out and find it. Every day, we localization professionals make the impossible possible. Tonight we celebrate the best of who we are. I congratulate all of our talented LMGI nominees.

Photos of Warner Bros.‘films Judas and the Black Messiah and Principle won both film categories for period and contemporary locations, respectively, while Netflix cleaned up in television categories, winning all three awards for The Queen’s Gambit (limited series), The Crown – Season 4 (period locations), and Lupine (contemporary location).

Emmy®-winning actress Camryn manheim presented the LMGI Humanitarian Prize to her Oscar-winning actress friend Marlee matlin; Location manager Aine Furey received the LMGI 2021 award for all of his achievements from the producer Jeff king (The Umbrella Academy) and Hindle Art; and director David Yates (Harry potter, Fantastic beasts) received this year’s Eva Monley Award, which recognizes and honors members of the industry who support the vision of localization professionals. Yates’ honor was presented by his must-see site director, Sue quinn. Another veteran of the location manager, Patricia fay (Dante’s peak, Assassins, Always, The Patriot), who retired in 2000, received the Trailblazer Award for Emmy-winning production designer Jim Bissell.

It was quite a moving ceremony with great moments, including Matlin’s speech, who thanked Henri winkler, which helped her in her early days in the business, and the Tony Award Deaf west Theater, where filmmaker Siân Heder was able to find Matlin’s CODA co-stars, Troy Kotsur and Daniel Durant. Matlin urged filmmakers to give more roles to deaf and disabled actors in their films. (To note: Under the line has a number of interviews below the line for CODA – an acronym for “Children of Deaf Adults” – to share in the next few weeks, but not its site director, although he has filmed in beautiful locations in Gloucester, MA.)

Other presenters for the evening included Nadine Velasquez, John brotherton, Harry lennix, John Seda, Lesley Fera, Chris Geere, and Joel De La Fuente, with a pre-show hosted by Jim cashman, chatting with some of last year’s LMGI Award winners.
