Internationally renowned director, screenwriter and cinematographer Warwick thornton is one of Australia’s most famous First Nations author voices.

Known for his powerful and grainy feature films, Thornton has won several awards for his work, including the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his first feature film. Samson and Delilah (2009), and the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival as well as the Platform Prize at the Toronto Film Festival for Sweet country (2017).

Thornton is currently in South Australia on the set of the new vampire series AMC Studios and See-Saw Films Fire bite, which he created, wrote and directed with a long-time collaborator Brendan Fletcher. Release scheduled for December 16, 2021, Fire bite is a high-octane fantasy series that follows two native Australian hunters, Tyson and Shanika, on their quest to fight off the last vampire colony in the middle of the South Australian desert.

This special ‘in conversation’ event with Warwick Thornton was presented at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute in July as part of SAFC’s NAIDOC 2021 week celebrations, hosted by a former NITV and ABC reporter Nancia Guivarra. Filmed by SAFC’s partner, Adelaide’s community broadcaster Channel 44.
