The University of Sydney has launched its new School of Project Management, the first of its kind in Australia, offering a full range of accredited project-based research and educational offerings.
Part of the Faculty of Engineering, the School was created to equip students and practitioners in the evolution of work and to undertake research that addresses the complexity of projects to improve the quality of life of communities and future generations.
The School of Project Management offers a range of accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as a range of customized executive education programs.
It also draws on the core research strengths of the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership, a recognized global leader in project knowledge and performance founded through a generous gift from John Grill AO.
“We are delighted to launch the School of Project Management and bring together project research and education, and to develop and inspire the next generation of project managers and project managers in Australia,” said said Professor Jennifer Whyte, Director of the School of Project Management. .
“We have developed a research program for project leadership in a changing world, in order to meet the new challenges of project leadership.
“We argue that there is a renewed need for this socialized perspective to examine how leadership is organized in projects in a changing world, where projects are interventions in larger systems with changing technologies, complexity growing number of stakeholders and environmental concerns.
“Our vision is to develop project managers and leaders capable of carrying out complex projects that meet the needs of society, adapting to a changing world and its changing requirements.”
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Willy Zwaenepoel welcomed this addition and recognizes the important role it will play in the overall vision of the faculty.
“We have a proud history of project management within the Faculty of Engineering, which is now supported by the world-class research strengths of the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership,” Professor Zwaenepoel said.
“I look forward to seeing the School continue to grow and to involve them in our flagship strategic initiatives.”
