A 25-year-old man from the nearby town of Currumundi and a 22-year-old man from Baringa, both mechanics, were helping to repair the bus on the side of Nambour Connection Road in Woombye around 3.30pm on Thursday when a vehicle hit them.
The couple suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, but later died.
The driver of the car, a 43-year-old woman from Warana, was not physically injured and is assisting the police in their investigations.
She returned a negative breath test and was also tested for drugs.
The accident forced the closure of the left lane of the Nambour Connection Road towards Nambour, causing long delays.
The Accident Forensic and Occupational Health and Safety Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information or dash cam footage taken in the area at the time has been urged to contact police.
