The competition was organized by the Greek National Day Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad.

It was launched in February, at the start of the 2021 school year, and ended in June.

The aim of the competition was for primary, secondary and tertiary students studying the Greek language as well as young people of Greek descent between the ages of 18 and 21 from across the state of Victoria to have the opportunity to actively participate in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution.

Participants were asked to explain what 1821 meant to them. Each participant had the opportunity to present their point of view through an essay, poem, drawing, PowerPoint presentation, poster, interview, song, painting or object.

More than 650 young people took part in the competition, mainly primary and secondary students, from twenty-eight different schools.

The nominations were judged on the basis of the age of the participants by a special committee of seven members. It is important to mention that all the entries were amazing and that the participants showed the special knowledge they had for the commemoration of March 25.

The Greek National Day organizing committee had planned a special event for Monday, September 27 as part of the 2021 Victorian Bicentennial program.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event has been canceled and Victoria 2021 Bicentennial Committee Chair Antonis Tsourdalakis along with competition coordinator Natasha Spanos will be visiting all schools during Quarter 4 to present the award ceremony in person and to congratulate all participants.
