HIGHLIGHT – The American Home Furnishings Alliance Furniture Foundation has awarded $ 44,000 in grants for 2021, with a focus on training scholarships and academic programs to support the industry.
The Furniture Foundation, which was established to fund research and education initiatives, has distributed over $ 4.2 million in grants since 1990.
The 2021 grants include:
- $ 15,000 for 60 scholarships to Alexander Furniture Academy in Taylorsville, NC, part of Catawba Valley Community College. The academy offers tailoring and upholstery classes in a simulated factory environment.
- $ 7,000 in scholarships to the Catawba Valley Furniture Academy in Hickory, NC.
- $ 5,000 for 28 full scholarships at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Furniture Technology Institute in Hudson, North Carolina. The institute trains workers for careers as industrial sewing machine operators and upholsterers. He also received $ 5,000 in marketing funds to boost the institute’s recruiting efforts.
- $ 12,000 to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, to fund four $ 3,000 scholarships for the Furniture Design Program, which provides students with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design with a focus on product development, concerns environmental and manufacturing requirements.
