Anna Gleeson knows better than anyone the feeling of excitement that comes with being recognized for excellence in sport. She was recognized for her hard work in 2019 when she became Port Macquarie-Hastings Sportswoman of the Year. Gleeson reached the pinnacle of sporting recognition in Hastings after playing for the 35-winning Australian women’s team at Touch’s World Cup in Malaysia and was awarded MVP of the final. She was part of the NSW 35 women’s squad to defeat Queensland 2-1 in Home State 2019; receiving NSW Senior Women’s Football Player of the Year and to cap off a busy year, coached the winning Port Macquarie Makos U10 women’s team at the 2019 Touch Football Junior State Cup North Conference. COVID -19 forced last year’s pricing to be canceled, but Gleeson was on hand to help with the 2021 release launch on July 20. “It is really important that children are recognized elsewhere than in their club or association and so their peers can see what they are doing and how successful they are,†she said. The nominations for the annual awards are now open with the awards presented in conjunction with the Port Macquarie Hastings Council and the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise. “There are so many young children playing all kinds of sports.
