South Australian business leaders appointed to SAFC Board of Directors

The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) will be strengthened with the appointment of South Australian Business Leader Julie Cooper as the new Chairman of the Board from December 4, 2021 to December 1, 2024.

Innovation and Skills Minister David Pisoni said Ms. Cooper will bring a wealth of business experience to the SAFC Board of Directors. Ms. Cooper is a business professional with over 30 years of experience and has held various executive and non-executive positions in a wide range of organizations.

Ms Cooper will also be joined on the SAFC Board of Directors by South Australian business leader Austin Taylor OAM, who is currently a member of the Kangaroo Island Mayor’s Relief and Recovery Fund Committee.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Cooper as Chairman of the Board of Directors as she will bring tremendous business experience that will benefit the SAFC during her tenure,” said Minister Pisoni.

“With this appointment, Ms. Cooper’s extensive experience, knowledge and skills will be extremely valuable to the SAFC and provide strong leadership in the role of President Member.”

“I am also delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Taylor, who is an accomplished corporate director with extensive business experience and familiarity with governance and risk management.

“Our screen industry is a vital part of our creative industries and thriving after COVID, with South Australia currently experiencing a boom in screen production, including the filming of the first television series commissioned by Netflix from a company South African production Gymnastics Academy: a second chance!

“The Marshall government understands the importance of screen production, which is why the latest state budget invested $ 32 million to ensure South Australia continues to be a premier location for production quality movies, television and digital content.

“The fact that the screen industry has doubled in size since the Marshall government came to power portends an extremely bright future in South Australia.

“I also recognize the contribution of outgoing President, Mr. Peter Hanlon, who has provided strong leadership to the SAFC Board of Directors over the past three years. “

Ms Cooper said she was thrilled to join the SAFC board on the eve of the agency’s 50th anniversary.

Ms. Cooper is a highly qualified business professional with extensive experience in business management and as a member of the Board of Directors. Ms. Cooper has held various positions including non-executive director of Nova Systems, non-executive director of Credit Union SA and director of BAE Systems. She has held senior positions for Nova Systems / The Nova Group of Companies and as State Project Manager for Lot Fourteen in the Prime Minister’s Ministry and Cabinet. Most recently, Ms. Cooper was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nova Group, succeeding Mr. Jim Whalley, co-founder of Nova Group who served as Chairman of the Board for over two decades.

Mr. Austin Taylor is the Founder and Managing Partner of Meerten Chartered Accountants and is an accomplished corporate director who has rebuilding / turnaround networks and hands-on business experience and is familiar with governance and risk management. Mr. Taylor holds
Bachelor’s degree in economics and accounting. He holds an honorary doctorate from Flinders University and was previously a member of the executive committee and academic council of Flinders University.
