SKUAST-K classified as ‘Band Excellent’ institution

Reaching a new milestone towards excellence in agricultural education and innovation, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Kashmir Agricultural Education and Technology has been named among the top performers in the ATAL Ranking of Institutions on Achievements in innovation (ARIIA).

The Indian Government Ministry of Education ranked SKUAST-K in the “Band Excellent†category – the second best performance after the “Outstanding Category†– in the Atal Innovation ranking in the group of government-sponsored and government-funded universities or considered to be universities in the country.

This is what helped SKUAST-K reach the sixth rank among state agricultural universities in India.

ARIIA is implemented by AICTE and the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education to rank all major higher education institutions and universities in India on indicators related to promoting and supporting ‘innovation. and entrepreneurship development â€among students and faculties. In this edition of ARIIA, the MoE has divided the ranking into four categories: outstanding, excellent group, performing group, promising group and beginner group).

SKUAST-K, which entered the All India Ranking Competition for the first time, secured its place in “Band Excellent†category in league with IIT, NITS, IIMS and other top universities from the country. This year, 1,438 higher education institutions across the country participated in the ranking system.

Speaking on development, SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad said: State agricultural universities. For the future, our goal is to be in the “Exceptional†category of the Atal ranking.

In recent years, SKUAST-K has taken a multitude of initiatives within the framework of the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) funded by the World Bank and ICAR to promote innovation and entrepreneurial culture in l ‘university. As part of the NAHEP, the university has also organized a host of national and international training programs on innovations and entrepreneurship for students and teachers. The results-oriented innovation and entrepreneurship learning programs in collaboration with Lemon School of Business, Nagpur and West Sydney University, Australia and the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand are a few to mention. These programs have catapulted themselves into a spectrum of idea generation by students, resulting in obtaining five BIG BIRAC grants from DBT for the incubation of ‘proof of concept’, which in itself is a great achievement for University and having the privilege of being the only university with five BIRAC grants in India. The university obtained five patents for the innovations and filed 20 patent applications on other discoveries during this period by teachers. Five startups were registered under the Companies Act based on the innovations of SKUASTK students. This is only the beginning of SKUASTK’s journey on the path of innovation and entrepreneurship and under the leadership of the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nazir Ahmad, and the hard work of teachers and students, it will culminate more in horizons of higher achievement. Professor Nazir, as NAHEP’s Principal Investigator, provided leadership and direction for these programs, resulting in innovations that allowed SKUASTK to achieve the excellent group in the ATAL ranking.
