The troubled NAB League season did not disappoint the Tasmanian Devils, with five players named to the Allied squad. Oliver Sanders of North Launceston, Oliver Davis of Clarence, North Hobart trio Jye Menzie, Tyler McGinniss and Sam Collins will represent the state, with Will Splann and Baker Smith being named as emergencies. The team, made up of players from Tasmania, the Northern Territory and Queensland, face South Australia on Sunday. This year’s Allied squad will only include eligible players from New South Wales, with the state’s ongoing COVID-19 restrictions impacting availability. Devils captain Sam Banks and Clarence teammate Darcy Gardner were in contention for the selection but were both ruled out due to injury. Sunday’s clash will give the state’s young talent another chance to impress on the national stage ahead of the November AFL Draft. ALSO IN SPORT: The selections come after the Devils Under-17 and Under-19 teams traveled to Queensland last week to face the Brisbane Lions Academy teams. The Under-19 challenge game will take place at Adelaide Oval, with the first bounce at 10:20 am.
