Beginning of the local production of a horror/thriller film

PRODUCTION started on a horror/thriller film Running Rabbit Running by Emmy-nominated Australian director Daina Reed, with filming taking place in part on the Surf Coast.

With Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Snook, Running Rabbit Running just added two more big names to the cast – Australian Academy of Film and Television Arts award winner Damon Herriman and Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominee Greta Scacchi, plus newcomer Lily LaTorre as Mia.

Snook plays Sarah, a fertility doctor who has a solid understanding of the cycle of life: you are born, you live, then you die.

But when she’s forced to make sense of her young daughter Mia’s increasingly bizarre behavior, Sarah must question her own beliefs and confront a ghost from her past.

In addition to the Surf Coast, the film – due for release this year – will be shot at locations in South Australia.

Born in Adelaide, Snook was nominated for several awards for her role as Shiv Roy in the HBO drama Successionbut his big screen credits include Steve Jobs, Predestination and The sewer.

Herriman is best known for playing Dewey Crowe in the FX crime drama Justifiedand has portrayed cult leader and criminal Charles Manson twice in recent years – in the Netflix series spirit hunter and in Quentin Tarantino’s film Once upon a time in Hollywood.

Italian-Australian actress Scacchi has a career spanning four decades in film and television, and her portrayal of Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Fate won her a Primetime Emmy Award and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She received a second Emmy Award nomination in 2006 for broken path as well as his first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

The cast also includes Trevor Jamieson (storm boy, Bran Nude Dae), Neil Méville (Five bedrooms, brilliant lies), Naomi Rukavina (pawno, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Georgina Naidu (change of the sea, Newton’s Law), Genevieve Morris (Flowering, No activity)Katherine Slatery (Balibo, our secret life) and newcomer Sunny Whelan.

The screenplay was written by acclaimed South Australian novelist Hannah Kent (Devotion, funeral rituals) from an original idea developed with Carver Films, with Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw of Carver Films (Relic, Supporter, snow town) producing. Los Angeles-based XYZ Films produces, finances and manages worldwide sales.

Storyd Group’s Deanne Weir and Olivia Humphrey, and Filmology’s Jack Christian and DJ McPherson are also executive producers.

The director of photography is Bonnie Elliott (ACS), the production designer is Vanessa Cerne, the costume designer is Marion Boyce and the make-up and hair artist is Angela Conte. The casting director is Allison Meadows of Mullinars Casting and the editor is Sean Lahiff.

The film benefits from significant production investment from XYZ and Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria, the South Australian Film Corporation and Soundfirm. XYZ Films handles worldwide sales. Umbrella and Maslow Entertainment are handling Australia/NZ distribution.
