Victoria business lobby groups say they are bitterly disappointed at the prospect of several more weeks of point-of-sale closures and billions of additional business dollars lost under the state government’s “road map” to the reopening announced earlier.

Store workers brace for increased customer aggression, retail lobby says if they are to exclude unvaccinated customers and Australian Retailers Association wants to be certain what expectations will be set on business.

The $ 12 billion events industry says it has been completely ignored in the roadmap and the pub lobby, the Australian Hotels Association, says it has been “gutted” by the announcement of today.

The association said restrictions on the number of customers and the continued ban on indoor service left Victorian publicans behind their NSW counterparts who can open – outside and inside – when 70% of adults in this state are double dosed.

The Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the roadmap had failed to give certainty the sector was calling for, chamber chief executive Paul Guerra describing the plan as “a roadmap full of roadblocks â€.

“Every Victorian deserves to understand why NSW’s settings that allow them to open up to 70% double vaxx and give them a way forward are so fundamentally different from what the Victorians received today,†said Mr. Guerra.

“We have been blocking for too long. We need a way out of this and today’s announcement didn’t give us the clarity, didn’t give us the certainty, didn’t give us the hope we needed to get out. of this current situation.

Victorian Hotel Association President David Canny said the majority of Victorian pubs are ready for their staff to carry out vaccination mandates.

“Pubs and hotels wanted to test the ‘Pub Pass’ vaccination system even before the state reached 70% double dose,” Canny said.

“The government wants a vaccination model. If people can get to a pub after they’ve been tricked, it will help the government achieve their goals.

Australian Retailers Association chief executive Paul Zahra welcomed the roadmap but said the likely full reopening of the retail business, slated for early November, would mean an additional $ 6 billion in lost sales and that some stores would not survive.

Zahra also called for more clarity and support for retail businesses and their staff who will likely have to enforce state government bans on unvaccinated customers.

“Frontline retail staff have unfortunately been the victim of increased customer assault due to QR code and mask warrants, and although these cases are in the minority, asking for a customer’s vaccination history will increase. certainly this concern, â€Zahra said. noted.

“It is important that retailers have the support of law enforcement agencies so that they can safely manage the reopening of their businesses. “
