Enrolment Information

General School Enrolment
To enrol at Australia Street Infants School, parents are asked to attend an interview with the Principal. This is a good time to tell the principal of any special circumstances, allergies, health or medical conditions before your child starts school.

Kindergarten interviews commence in May of the year prior to enrolment and may be booked by phoning the school office to make an appointment from the beginning of Term 2. Interviews for Years 1 and 2 may be organised throughout the year by phoning the school office.

You will need to complete the enrolment form, which you can obtain at https://schoolsequella.det.nsw.edu.au/file/8a02d9b7-f934-401e-b96a-0949f04a3e14/1/detsef.pdf. You will also be asked to bring the following original documentation with you for the interview:
• child's birth certificate or identity documents
• proof of child's address x 2. E.g. current council rates notice, residential lease, electricity bill, etc.
• immunisation history statement from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
• any family law or other relevant court orders, if applicable.

Students arriving from overseas and/or temporary residents will need to supply the following documents and special conditions may exist for some visa holders:
• passport or travel documents
• current visa and previous visas (if applicable)

Enrolment areas
NSW public schools have specific local enrolment areas. These areas are determined by the Department of Education. Students enrol in public schools based on their home address. All public schools ensure there are enough places for students in their local enrolment area. Schools may accept enrolments from outside their area if places are available; however priority is given to children who live within the school boundary. Out of area applications for enrolment are only offered if a vacancy exists and are subject to the selection criteria stipulated in the Department of Education policies.

If the demand for local enrolment exceeds the number of places available, out-of-area enrolments will not be available. Contact the school for further information about their out-of-area selection criteria or visit: https://education.nsw.gov.au/going-to-a-public-school.

Preschool Enrolment

There are a number of procedures and requirements for enrolment in a Department of Education preschool.

General guidelines

  • Department preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.
  • Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age on or before 31 July that year. Enrolment is offered in the following order:
    • children living within the school's enrolment catchment area
    • children living outside the school's enrolment catchment area and who have siblings enrolled in the school
    • children living outside the school's enrolment catchment area
  • Offers of enrolment are made in keeping with the department's policy of targeting the most disadvantaged children in the local community – schools should give priority to Aboriginal children whose families experience disadvantage and to families experiencing financial hardship who are unable to access other children's services.
