Hi Families!
Well what an amazing day we had for our Project Day! It was fantastic to see all the groups working, discussing, testing and building their boats together! Sharing ideas and solving how they would build a boat that could float from random items in a tote tray! I was really impressed with the discussions going on as the groups were working toward completing their boats! Well done everybody!
Friday is Walk Safely to School Day! There will be a Police Officer at the crossing at Australia Street supporting all you safe walkers!
Also, on Friday I will be representing the school as the Federation Rep. for the two hour stop work meeting in regards to the Local Schools Local Decisions policy. Red Dragons are very lucky to have Principal Webber taking the class for the morning!!
So what have we been doing in class:
Our sight words this week are Year 1: ate, be, black, brown. Year 2: call, fast, gave, made. Our blends this week are Year 1: tr. Year 2: 0a, ow. We have been learning about The Titanic. We did a book study on Samson’s Titanic Journey and looked at how much Samson’s journey reflected what really happened with the Titanic. Our grammar focus this week are adjectives. We looked at different pictures from Samson Titanic and used describing words that matched the pictures in detail and feelings.
In Maths, we have continued our counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are learning about using doubles and near doubles when adding. ”Its no trouble for me to add doubles!” (Get a Red Dragon to sing the song to you!) We continuing reviewing 3D shapesby naming and describing their features. We are also continuing to look at volume and capacity to go with all our wonderful learning of floating and sinking.
The Buddies topic this week is: Co-operation. Co-operation is when people work together to get something done. Sometimes we have different ideas on how to do something and by cooperating we can get those things done. If we don’t cooperate then things don’t get done!
In Science we continue to look at Floating and Sinking. We learnt about the concepts of density, buoyancy and displacement. Again we got to go down to the grassed area and experimented with different items in the water tray to see these concepts in action. It was a great sunny day on the grass!
Hope you are doing well and I will catch you on the playground!

In Maths, we have continued our counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are learning our time, o’clock, half past and quarter to and past. We continuing reviewing 3D shapes by naming and describing their features. We are also looking at volume and capacity linked with our float and sink theme.
The Buddies topic this week is: Support. Support is when we help people in all different kinds of situations. We can support people when they need help, when they are sick, for encouragement and when they are sad.
In Science we continue to look at Floating and Sinking. We experimented with different materials and shapes and first predicted which would float and sink. We then went down to the grassed area and tested our predictions in the water tray. It was very interesting to see the reactions to their predictions!
Hope you are doing well and I will catch you on the playground!

Hello Families!
Welcome back! I Hope you all had a wonderful break!
There is no assembly on tomorrow as it has moved to Friday 2:15pm for a special farewell assembly for Mr. Cheng’s last day!
Year 2 had their Buddy Leader Camp on Monday and had a blast! The Year 2’s worked together discussing what it means to be a leader and how to work together as a group. Year 2 broke off into groups and worked together beautifully to design, make, solve problems and test different group challenges such as building a stable tower of BBQ skewers and building a bridge to span a water obstacle and support a car. I was so proud how they all worked so well together and think they are going to be fantastic leaders!
So what have we been doing this week:
Our sight words this week are Year 1: we, where, yellow, you. Year 2: his, left, old, put. Our blends this week are Year 1: dr, fr. Year 2: -igh, -y. This term we are doing Procedure. We have had a look at the features of a procedure and have started making many things. We made a fishbowl spinner last week that the students really enjoyed! Our grammar focus this we are homophones (words that sound the same but spelt differently)
In Maths, we have continued our counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are reviewing our column addition with remainders from last term. We are reviewing 3D shapes by naming and describing there features. We are also looking at position and how to explain directions using left, right, turn and forward. This was a fun activity making directions for each other and seeing where we would end up in the classroom!
We are starting Buddies this week and the topic is: Integrity. A person with integrity is both honest and fair. Being honest and fair is the right thing to do.
In Science this term we are going to look at the theme of Floating and Sinking. In class we will be looking at the materials, shapes and items that help things float or sink. This will be lead up to a huge project day in Week 4 were the buddy groups will work together with this knowledge to make a boat! I can’t wait as the teachers had a go at building boats and had a great time!
Let me know how you are all going and if you have questions or concerns let me know!
Keep Smiling,
Michael Kristic

Hi Families!
Wow! Half way through the term already!! Time flies when your having fun! And that’s something the Red Dragons have been doing a lot of in their learning. I am so happy with how everyone has settled in and are working together as one big team! I have assessed everyone’s reading and maths levels and am impressed with Red Dragons’ abilities! Keep up the good work Red Dragons!
So what have we been doing class…
Our sight words this week are Year 1: help, here, I ,in. Year 2: buy, don’t, found, it’s. Our blends this week are Year 1: short o. Year 2: revision. We continue to work on Recount in writing looking at reviewing books and different texts. Our grammar focus this week are verbs! We have also doing lots of work on punctuation. Capital letters and full stops are something that Red Dragons can forget to put in their wonderful writing and we have been working on reminding ourselves how important they are to make a sentence!
In Maths, we have continued our counting by 2s, 5s and 10s (something I think that can easily be practiced anywhere). We looked more at place value and all the Red Dragons now have a great understanding of tens and ones and how to make two digit numbers using them. We began to look at Money and using different coins to make an amount. (This is another great opportunity for real world practice). Some are still wrestling with the concept of dollars and cents. But as I always say, “If you can count from 1-10, you can count any number!” We will also be continuing or work on Data by making column graphs and using tally marks to record data.
As part of our Healthy Eating science unit we made a healthy food restaurant menu. The Red Dragons made up names for their restaurants and made a menu of healthy food options which we made into a paper menu and laminated! (Yes Christine!) They turned out beautifully!! If you get a chance, check out these fine establishments: Tom’s Cooking Wonderland, Dom’s Famous Food, Jack’s Food Adventures, Darcy’s Cool Fish, Paddy’s Perfect Pad Thai’s or Milly’s Fancy Wonderland Shop among others!
Hope you’re doing well! Come up and say hello!
Keep Smiling!

We continued our work with 3D Shapesfocusing on edges, corners and faces as well as looking at the shapes that make 3D shapes! We will also be starting our work on Data by making column graphs and using tally marks to record data.
As always we like to get a bit Arty in Red Dragons! After reading “I Wish I Had Duck Feet” we made drawing of what animal part we would like to have and why! Also we made some beautiful Bubble writing patterns for our names as part of or theme about looking at ourselves.
If you have any questions come up and have a chat!
